ARD Art Institution - International Artist Residency
Programme Overview
ARD Art Institution is a contemporary art space dedicated to fostering dialogue between local and international artistic cultures. Founded in 2022, ARD presents a dynamic program of artist residencies, exhibitions, workshops, and alternative art initiatives that emerge from local context while remaining open to the world.
The International Residency Program is a process-oriented opportunity for artists to develop and present projects within Cairo’s vibrant contemporary art scene, free from traditional art market constraints.

Location & Setting
Neighborhood: Garden City, Central Cairo
Garden City is one of Cairo’s oldest and most prestigious residential areas, characterized by tree-lined streets, foreign embassies, elegant mansions, and distinctive architecture. The location offers:
- Views of the Nile Corniche
- Walking distance to downtown Cairo
- Access to traditional wooden felouka sailboat rides on the Nile
- River walks and city views along the waterfront Corniche
Accommodation
ARD Annex – Shared apartment on the same floor as ARD Art Institution
Each resident receives:
- Private bedroom
- Shared facilities: large and small bathrooms, kitchen, dining room, living room
- Located in Garden City with Nile views
Studio/Workspace
Private studio space for each artist, fully equipped with:
- Air conditioning and heating
- Work table and desk
- Office chair and armchair
- Shelving and storage
- Lighting (including floor lamp)
- WiFi
- Plants and décor
Duration & Dates
Program Period: November 2 – December 30, 2025
Available Slots:
- Slot 1: November 2-30, 2025 (1 artist)
- Slot 2: December 2-30, 2025 (1 artist)
Typical Duration: 1-3 months (current call is 1-month slots)
Support & Services Provided
Artistic & Professional Support:
- Introduction to Cairo’s local art scene
- Artistic assistance from ARD team member
- Technical assistance
- Access to local art materials
- Connections with craftspeople and heritage site artists
- Network opportunities with Egyptian art scene members
Public Programming:
- Interactive studio visits with local artists, curators, and key figures
- Public lecture/workshop led by resident artist
- Exhibition or open studio at end of residency
- Portfolio review or mentorship program opportunities
- Feature on ARD website and social media platforms
Cultural Immersion:
- Heritage site visits and tours
- Introduction to local artistic communities
- Integration with ARD’s ongoing exhibitions and events
Cost
€400 per week (covers accommodation and studio access)
Artists are responsible for travel, food, materials, and personal expenses.
Artist Expectations
Required:
- Present a public lecture or workshop
- Share experiments/production before end of residency
- Engage with and inspire the local Egyptian art scene
- Provide networking opportunities
- Participate in open studio or exhibition at residency conclusion
- Agreement to be featured on ARD’s website and social media
