Programme Overview

Darb1718 is one of Egypt’s most influential contemporary art and culture hubs, situated in the ancient artisan quarter of Old Cairo’s Fustat district. The residency program offers artists an immersive cultural experience in authentic Cairo, surrounded by centuries of artistic heritage and a thriving contemporary arts scene.

This unique, multidisciplinary program welcomes writers, researchers, visual artists, and curators across all media. The Fustat location holds special significance for ceramic artists, given the area’s centuries-long tradition of ceramic production.

Darb1718 features multiple indoor and outdoor spaces accommodating over 3,000 people:

• Main Exhibition Space: Two floors, 420 sq m
• Garden of Cinema el Fourn: 400 sq m
• Open Square with Garden: 1,200 sq m (between main building and office)
• Annex Building: 140 sq m supplementary exhibition and workshop space, plus 70 sq m terrace, office, and storage

Accommodation

Private rooftop accommodation within the historic center of Old Cairo.

Pricing Options:

• Single Room: €12/day | €100/week | €350/month
• Double Room: €16/day | €120/week | €450/month
• Private Studio: €20/day | €150/week | €550/month

Note: This is a paid residency. Artists cover accommodation, food, and transportation costs.
